Two killed, five injured in collision on MC Road in Kerala’s Kottayam


Two people were killed and five others sustained injuries in a collision involving a four-wheeler and a pick-up van at Kodimatha on the MC Road in Kottayam, Kerala, in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Jaimon James (43) and Arjun (19), both natives of Kollad. One person, identified as Jadhav, was critically injured in the collision and has been placed on a ventilator at the medical college hospital.

The incident occurred around 12.30 am on Tuesday when the four-wheeler, heading towards Kottayam from Manippuzha, collided head-on with the pickup van from the opposite direction. Both vehicles were completely destroyed in the impact.

Local residents rushed to the scene and carried out rescue operations. On an alert, a Fire and Rescue Services unit from Kottayam reached the spot. Jaimon, the four-wheeler driver, was trapped inside the mangled remains of the vehicle and had to be extricated by cutting open the vehicle. The injured were rushed to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital.

According to the police, there were five people travelling in the four-wheeler. The pick-up van had two occupants, both of whom escaped with minor injuries.

The accident caused a traffic disruption on the MC Road for nearly half an hour.

A police team from the Chingavanam station reached the spot and led the proceedings.

A probe is on to ascertain the cause of the accident.
