Authorities have sounded a flood alert for areas downstream of the Kabini reservoir as relentless rainfall continues to batter the catchment regions, significantly increasing the inflow into the dam.
In a release issued on Wednesday, the office of the executive engineer, Kabini reservoir division, stated that the outflow from the reservoir has been increased to 30,000 cusecs, up from 20,000 cusecs earlier in the day, to manage the rapidly rising water levels. Officials warned that the discharge may further increase if the inflow continues to rise.
In response, residents of low-lying areas and riverbanks have been urged to remain vigilant, safeguard their property and livestock, and relocate to safer areas if necessary. Authorities have also advised the public to adhere to all safety instructions issued by the district administration.
The dam authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
