
Traffic has slowed to a crawl on the flooded Palazhi Road in Kozhikode on Monday. Several major roads in the city have been flooded following the heavy rains that lashed the district over the weekend

Heavy rain lashed Kozhikode district in Kerala on Monday (June 16) morning along with heavy winds. The district has been put on red alert. The District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions for the day.
Waterlogging of major roads, poor visibility leading to traffic congestion, flooding of low lying areas, uprooting of trees, power outages, landslips/landslides and damage to life and property are expected across the district and the public have been warned to stay alert and take necessary steps to avert danger. The public have been advised to avoid non-essential movements and stay in safe places.
The water level in the major rivers have been high and the people on their banks have been asked to stay alert and ready to evacuate as and when required.
The water level has risen above the warning level in Poonoor River at its Kunnamangalam and Kollikkal stations.
The water level is just below the warning level in Kuttyadi river at its Kadiyangad station and Chaliyar at its Koodathai station. However, the water level is likely to rise rapidly considering the extent of the rain.
