The Sudduguntepalya police, with the help of their Ashoknagar counterparts, tracked down a 29-year-old habitual offender who was robbing motorists with fake accidents in and around the city on Saturday.
The accused, Zamail Khan, a resident of Rajendranagar in Mysuru, allegedly used to move around on a scooter with a fake number plate. The accused would allegedly crash the scooter and threaten and rob the other motorists, said the police.
Using this modus operandi, the accused robbed a 78-year-old retired government servant on M.G. Road on July 2.
Based on a complaint, the police shared the details of the accused based on CCTV camera footage, following which the Sudduguntepalya police on Saturday tracked down the accused and arrested him.
The accused, according to the police, is involved in over 24 cases in and around the city, and even in Mysuru and Srirangapatna.
“He does not use a phone and uses a scooter with a fake registration number plate,” the police said.
The accused has been booked and remanded in judicial custody. The police are now contemplating on opening a rowdy sheet against him, a senior police officer said.
