Government degree college in Mylavaram gets ₹31.5L Central grant for project on orchids


Dr. Lakireddy Hanimireddy Government Degree College, Mylavaram, affiliated to Krishna University, has been sanctioned Central grant of ₹31.5 lakh through Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).

In a statement issued on Tuesday (June 24), the college Principal I. Ravi said that the amount was sanctioned to carry out a research project on “Biodiversity of Orchids from the Eastern Ghats of India with reference to Molecular and Phytochemical Characterisation” by Principal Investigator of the project Dr. J. Ramudu, a lecturer in Botany.

Dr. Ramudu said that through this research project, the study of orchid plants available in the forests of the Eastern Ghats of Andhra Pradesh, along with the medicinal chemicals, biomedicine would be studied through biochemistry.

The duration of the project is three years and the research will benefit humanity by studying the medicinal properties of orchid plants.

Vice-Principal of the college P. Rangarao, faculty members M. Devanand Kumar, M. Srinivasa Rao, N. Venkatadri, V. Umalakhsmi and others congratulated Dr. Ramudu.
