Decks are cleared for the election of former MLC N. Ramachander Rao as the next president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Telangana.

Highly placed party sources said a top BJP functionary called up the State leadership and informed about the decision to name Mr. Rao as the next party chief.

Mr. Rao and Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender were the front runners for the top post which is held presently by the Union Minister for Coal G. Kishan Reddy.

Sources said that all indications available with the party leadership hinted at unanimous election of the new party chief.

Who is Ramachander Rao?

Mr. Rao is a senior advocate and Bar Council Member. He rose from the party’s student wing of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to become MLC. His candidature was strongly pushed by the Sangh also, according to party sources. Nizamabad MP D. Aravind, Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Rajya Sabha MP K. Laxman and few others were also in contention they said.

Nominations accepted till 4 pm

As per the election notification issued by the Election officer Yendla Laxminarayana, nominations would be accepted today till 4 pm and the scrutiny would be done by evening. In case more than one nominations were filed, elections would be held on Tuesday. But, it is unlikely that any other nomination would be filed.

The election of State BJP President has been long pending since the last Assembly elections in the State. The process had been delayed for one or another reason.
