Congress Dharwad (Rural) MLA Vinay Kulkarni on Wednesday said that he will surrender before court in Bengaluru on Friday in the wake of the Supreme Court cancelling his bail.
He was addressing presspersons at Kittur in the neighbouring district of Belagavi.
Mr. Kulkarni who has been accused of being involved in the murder of BJP Zilla Panchayat member Yogeeshgouda Goudar murder case was earlier released from prison on the condition that he should not enter Dharwad district.
Recently, the Supreme Court cancelled Kulkarni’s bail on a plea by the CBI which sought cancellation on the ground that he is influencing witnesses.
An emotional Kulkarni said that as per the court order he will surrender before court and he will obey court orders as he has faith in the judiciary.
He also said that development works will continue at the same pace in his absence from his constituency.
Kulkarni said that although he was not allowed to enter his constituency and Dharwad district, he ensured that development works were carried. He said that after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail, he met Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, other Ministers and senior officials with a plea to ensure that the ongoing development works continue without any hassles.
Kulkarni, who produced a list of ongoing works, said that check-dams have been constructed at a cost of ₹32 crore, de-silting of the Tupparihalla has been taken up and ₹128 crore has been sanctioned for lift irrigation schemes.
He said that underground drainage works worth ₹35 crore are in progress in eight wards of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation under Dharwad constituency.
He said that 10 general hostels and eight BCM hostels have been sanctioned for Dharwad and land has already been identified. A Morarji school has come up at Timmapur village in Dharwad taluk and 126 classrooms have been repaired. Repair of a tank in Narendra village has been taken up at a cost of ₹7 crore.
A new district hospital has been proposed to be built on a 10-acre land opposite the KVG Bank on Belagavi Road in Dharwad at a cost of ₹400 crore, he said.
On the cancellation of his bail, Kulkarni said that he has faith in the judiciary and the Almighty. He, however, claimed that the charge against him is a result of political vendetta and that he is a victim of it. He also expressed that he is confident of coming out clean.
