Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visits pharma blast site, announces ₹1 crore ex-gratia for victims’ families

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy visited the Sigachi Industries Pvt. Ltd unit in Pashamylaram Industrial area in Sangareddy district on Tuesday, where a massive explosion on Monday left at least 36 people dead and injured several others.

After assessing the situation through interactions with officials, including District Collector P. Pravinya, and other concerned officials at the unit owned by Sigachi Industries Private Limited, the Chief Minister announced a compensation of ₹ 1 crore to the kin of each of the deceased. He also announced that ₹10 lakh would be given to the seriously injured, while partially injured individuals would receive ₹5 lakh as ex-gratia. As immediate assistance ₹1 lakh would be provided to the bereaved families of the victims and ₹50,000 to family members of those injured, the CM added.

Mr. Reddy, accompanied by Minister for Health Damodar Raja Narasimha, Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Minister for Labour Vivek Venkataswamy, and Minister for Revenue Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, arrived at the site around 11 a.m., inspected the premises, and reviewed the rescue operations. He also held an in-camera review meeting with officials and interacted with the family members of the victims.

Instructing the authorities to provide better medical care to the injured, Mr. Revanth Reddy termed the industrial accident unfortunate, noting that this industrial accident had recorded the highest number of fatalities in the two Telugu States.

The CM ordered officials to identify those responsible and take stringent action against them. He also directed officials to submit a detailed report on the incident and conduct inspections in other chemical companies to identify shortcomings and prevent such accidents.

Addressing the media, Mr. Revanth Reddy said: “We will identify those responsible for the disaster and take stringent action.” The State government would also introduce a transparent policy to prevent such incidents in the future, and officials had been ordered to conduct periodic inspections of companies.

The CM assured that the government would extend all possible support to the affected families and bear the entire cost of medical care for the injured. Arrangements were being made to hand over the mortal remains to the bereaved families, and immediate financial relief would be provided to the victims’ families before ex-gratia was given.

Later, the Chief Minister visited the injured at a hospital in Patancheru and consoled the victims undergoing medical treatment. Meanwhile, a special forensic team from Osmania General Hospital has been brought in to assist with post mortem and DNA sample collection.
